Enchanting. What a powerful word when you relate it marketing.

Have you ever thought about what makes you so special, why people choose you, or what makes people have the confidence to refer you?

After completing Guy Kawasaki’s book, Enchantment, it really got me thinking about what gets me interested and excited about a project. Try to think about the elements of a particular person or project that jumped out and captured your attention and why. Once you identify those factors, you at least know what enchants you.

Understanding what enchants you is important because it helps you know when you have to exercise restraint when that “shiny object” or opportunity presents itself, but it also enables you to think differently about what enchants people about you and your service offerings.

So what does it take to be enchanting? I will give you a hint you have two of them that assist you with the process.

You guessed it! Listening.

Now I don’t mean listening like when you are watching TV and your significant other is giving you instructions to do something and you use your ability of memorization to just repeat what they said when they ask the inevitable question “Are you listening to me?” but genuinely hearing someone. Being genuine and hearing what someone is saying, sympathizing with their situation, and showing off those pearly whites are what is what makes you enchanting. You have the knowledge, it’s not about what you know OR who knows you, it is about what the perception is of those you have the privilege of interacting with.

When you are able to listen with genuine interest it allows your audience to be more receptive when you share your brilliant ideas or product.

Your ability to be enchanting is the best marketing tool you have.

Good luck and don’t forget to smile!
